I figured since I will be sharing philosophies and knowledge (both, experiential and factual) on the topics of The Unseen Realm, that you may also want to take part in knowing WHO is sharing all of this. So, here is a post on my personal philosophies and the folklore of me, Ember Hill.
The folklore of me has been a series I’ve been working with inspired by
Simone Seol’s Culture-Making workshop.
As I worked through the replay, pausing every now and again and leaving it for hours at a time to ponder and surrender to my inspiration; the whole time, I was reflecting on MY culture.
And I don't mean ethnically, but literally the culture of ME.
I also realized that people who follow me and consume my content over on my The Unseen Realm Instagram, didn’t really know ME.
Inspired with putting words to my own culture (which I renamed to folklore, because I wanted it to sound a touch-more magical, and the word shift made it SO FUN for me!), my series on Instagram was born.
The folklore of what we love,
what we don’t,
and what we celebrate in Ember Hill-land;
as well as the paradoxes and ways we confuse people 😜

Yet, since I don’t expect you to go into the depths of my Instagram to get to know me better in this space (although, you’re welcome to!) — here are 10 quick facts about me, Ember:
- My birth name was Sara, and I changed my name to Ember this year (2023)
- I’m Canadian, living in Nova Scotia
- I identify as genderqueer (or under the non-binary umbrella), and use they/she pronouns
- I also identify as queer (more specifically, pansexual) — you can read my coming out post here
- I’m a Libra sun, Cancer moon/rising; an October birthday (the 3rd to be exact); and born in the late 80’s
- I’m neuroqueer, which is how I choose to label my neurodivergence/neurotype
- My cat’s name is Monster (isn’t she cute?)

- I went to post-secondary for Advanced SPFX Makeup, Prosthetics & Props, as well as Cosmetic Techniques and Management, and Art Fundamentals
- I spent 10+ years in corporate finance (subprime lending), with 6+ of those years in a leadership role
- I’ve more recently studied:
- Meditation Teacher Training & Pranayama (started in 2020, 300hrs certified and in my next 300hr meditation teacher program)
- Reiki, Usui Ryoho & Crystal Reiki (Shinpiden or Reiki Master/Teacher certified in February 2022 & accredited by the International Reiki Organization)
- Tarot Card Reading, through HayHouse’s certificate program (completed in December 2022)
- Akashic Records (started study through courses in Sept 2022)
- Hypnosis, NLP, and as a Coach Practitioner (2021 to present, multiple formal courses)
- Evidential Mediumship (started a mentorship program in the summer of 2023)
- End of Life Care (Death Doula program started in August 2023)
That might give you a bit of a sense who I am, a sample taste, if you will; yet the beautiful thing about us humans is how multi-faceted and complex we are!
For example, I'm fascinated by metaphysical philosophy, consciousness, energy, the concept of enlightenment, and astrology. I am also passionate about social justice, disrupting the status quo and the systems of power (FUCK the kyriarchy 🖕). AND I follow the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the Canadian Football League; I even held season seats for many years! Most people seem surprised about this, if they’ve met me within the context of my more spiritual-facet forward first.

My personal philosophies are ever evolving and developing as I live and learn.
At the time of this writing, I hold reverence for the seven Hermetic principles. I believe we are all infinite, originating from a single source. I believe in past lives, and that most of us (if not all) have experienced multiple lifetimes. I believe in non-human entities, and in animism (defined as the attribution of consciousness/a soul to plants, inanimate objects, and natural phenomena.) I believe in quantum possibilities, and have an inner knowing that we only perceive time to be linear.
And most of all, I believe in magic. In believing is seeing, and not that seeing is believing.
I am currently exploring mystery school teachings, deepening my knowledge of and relationship to ancient eastern teachings (Hinduism and Buddhism primarily), and am exploring my Finnish roots in learning about Sámi Shamanism.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope you feel like you know me a bit better. I’d love to get to know you all reading this, so feel free to leave a fun fact or where you’re from in the comments ✌️

Bonus tid-bits for the curious bunch:
When I watched Ferngully as a child, I assumed myself to be a fairy and cried for days when my Mom told me I was a human 😭
(I still feel more fairy, than human)

My older Twitter bio read:
My smart-kid to corporate-leader turned entrepreneurial-artist journey has allowed me to gain a dynamic perspective on life and the world. I approach everything curiously + creatively.
I love this quote by Lucy Pearce. I feel it oh-so accurately captures and describes how I (and she) operate, and my passion towards helping other people live their best, intuitive and creative lives:
“I am a thoughtful detached observer. I see the damage that our culture does to so many who don’t fit in to the white, middle-class “American dream” of capitalism, I see the damage it does to our greater ecosystems. And so my utopian, pattern-seeking, systems-loving, philosophical-scientist, artist-dreamer self longs to help find other ways of living—healthier, gentler, richer more nourishing, nurturing and creative alternatives to this dull, grey, loud, violent culture. This is the driving passion of my life and work, and thanks to the internet I am able to connect with so many exciting, passionate, creative dreamers around the world…”— Lucy Pearce
